RateMyPreceptor – Community & Posting Guidelines
Last updated: July 11, 2025
Hey there! 🩺✨ Welcome to the RateMyPreceptor community. These friendly guidelines (the "Guidelines") keep things respectful, useful, and HIPAA-compliant. They sit alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy—so give those a glance, too.
What We're About
RateMyPreceptor is a student-run space to swap honest, first-hand impressions of clinical rotations and preceptors. Your stories help future learners find great teaching environments—and help preceptors level-up their mentoring game.
Important: We're not 911, campus security, or your state board. If someone's safety or license is at risk, report it through the proper channels first, then circle back here if you still want to leave a review.
How Moderation Works
- Human eyes on every review 👀—our small moderator team checks each post for HIPAA, spam, or abuse before it goes live.
- Pass/Fail, no edits. If a line crosses the line, we remove the whole review; we never rewrite it.
- Transparency. If we pull your review (except for emergency legal takedowns), we'll shoot you a short e-mail within 7 days explaining why.
Student Do's & Don'ts
✅ Do | ❌ Don't |
---|---|
Speak from first-hand experience—one review per preceptor per rotation. | Post PHI: no patient names, dates, MRNs, or anything that could ID a patient. |
Share both pros & cons so peers get the full picture. | Attack someone's appearance, gender, race, or personal life. |
Keep it constructive: "Dr. Smith rarely gave feedback" > "Dr. Smith is the worst human." | Copy-paste rumors or hearsay. If you didn't witness it, leave it out. |
Use plain language—caps, flames, or 37 exclamation points help no one. | Spam, ad, or self-promo. |
Preceptor Playbook
- We're anonymous by design. We can't unmask reviewers.
- Negative ≠ removable. Only guideline violations get zapped.
- Feel free to claim your profile and leave one calm reply per review.
- Think you're being dog-piled? Contact information will be added soon.
Prohibited Content (Zero-Tolerance)
- Hate speech & slurs
- Threats or incitement of violence
- Personal contact info (phone, email, home address)
- Definitive claims of illegal activity ("Dr. Jones bills fraudulently") without verifiable proof
- Copying another review or linking to outside gossip forums
Flagging a Review
See something off? Tap "Report" under the post. Choose a reason and add context if you like. We'll re-check it ASAP (usually < 48 hrs).
Legal Bits (Short & Sweet)
Section 230 of the U.S. Communications Decency Act protects RateMyPreceptor from liability for user-generated content. Suing us over someone else's words generally backfires 💸. If you must serve papers, see the address in our Terms.
